Pacific Northwest Invasive Plant Council

Volunteer at PCW-IPC

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the PNW IPC!

We will soon receive funding to track the distribution and spread of invasive plant species throughout the Pacific Northwest. Volunteers are the key to obtaining the information. We will train volunteers to identify invasive plants and document their current range and location. Trainings will occur in the spring and summer across the region. A training session takes a good part of a day and includes an indoor informational session using slides, herbarium sheets, and other prepared materials, and an outdoor session consisting of a field visit where infestations of invasive species occur. At the end of each session volunteers are assigned areas to survey according to their place of residence.

Information collected by volunteers is entered into the PNW IPC database. The data is then posted on our website and sent via a listserve to all other interested parties, such as the State and County Weed Boards, The Nature Conservancy, the State Invasive Species Councils and any other local group who indicates interest. The collected data will be used for early detection of invasive species, research, and decision making on how to control invasive species.
