About The Event
Hosted by: Nick Jarvis - Olympic National Forest, Jill Silver - 10,000 Years Institute, & Lauren Kuehne - Omfishient Consulting
This is a free 2.5 - 3 hour training with an optional group hike at 1:30pm where you will learn how to identify priority invasive species, how to record basic data and how to report findings on EDDMapS, a national early detection reporting system used by most federal, state and county agencies.
Participants learn plant identification through an in-person training with a potential online option, and learn methods of manual removal (if you so choose to do so) for certain species, and which species you should not attempt to remove. After the lecture portion of the training, we will be going outside to put your new identification and reporting skills to the test. Lauren Kuehne, Nick Jarvis, and Jill Silver will be with you to assist. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and potentially see some wildlife!
This training will equip you with the knowledge necessary to conduct invasive plant surveys in order to support local land managers that need your help. From your surveys, the PNW IPC contacts that land manager who then work to control the infestation, hopefully, eradicating it before it can spread throughout our lovely PNW ecosystems. Â Your efforts will directly support the maintenance of healthy ecosystems.
WSDA and ODA herbicide recertification credits are available!
Upon request, you will receive an invasive plant identification booklet along with survey forms. We ask that volunteers who sign up conduct 1-2 surveys over the field season.
